Kuchi-e were popular frontispiece illustrations for novels or magazines
from around 1895 to 1915, most notably Bungei Kurabu, the Literary Club magazine. They were usually folded twice and
inserted in books and magazines, and were generally about 9 x 12 inches (23 x 30.5 cm). Kuchi-e were hand-made in traditional
woodblock technique.
